今回で25周年を迎えたIndustrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA賞)。主催は、Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) とBusiness Week誌。
両者の共催が始まったのは1990年。以来、IDSAがBusiness Week誌にデザイン関連の最先端情報を提供し、ビジネスの発展をデザインの力で促進する、というコラボレーション関係で共に発展を続けています。
今年のIDEA賞発表直後のBusiness Week誌の表紙は、受賞作品の一つであるギターで飾られています。その受賞理由は、外観の美しさだけでなく、環境への細やかな配慮がなされている点。「ギター」という、趣味の範疇に入るアイテムのデザインにも、環境への配慮が求められてるという点が、まさに時代を反映していると言えるでしょう。
今回は1,414点のエントリー作品のうち、応募基準を満たす1,380点を審査。結果、148点が受賞作品に選ばれました。そのうち38点が金賞受賞作品として選ばれています。
