同賞は、活躍中のデザイナーのみならず、これからを期待される若手デザイナーに、未来のトレンドや革新性、デザインを提案する場として開催されています。
2007年は、46カ国から884点の応募がありました。その中で、105点が「red dot award」、18点が「red dot: best of the best」を受賞しました。
また、11月30日の授賞式で「best of the best」の中から、最高賞である「red dot: luminary」が選ばれ、発表されました。
