今年で、43回目を迎える「The D&AD Awards」は1962年に設立されました。
デザイン全般および広告産業を対象とした国際的なデザイン賞としてイギリスで毎年開催されています。
教育的な慈善事業を目的とし、クリエイティビティの基準を設定し、それに従って次世代を教育し、インスピレーションを与えることで、ビジネスにおけるグッドデザインと広告の重要性に対する認識を広げることを目指します。
カテゴリは27分野にわたり、アートディレクションから、建築、ミュージックビデオ、写真まで、コミュニケーションを幅広く網羅しています。
毎年、55カ国を超える国々の代理店、デザイン団体、クライアント、インハウススタジオ、映画制作会社等から、エントリーがあります。また、審査は、各専門分野で活躍する300名超が審査員により行われます。
2005年は約14,000点のエントリーがあり、127点が受賞。うち60点がSilver Awards (Yellow Pencils)、さらにその中から4点がGold Awards (Black Pencils)に選ばれました。なお、Silver Awards (Yellow Pencils) およびGold Awards (Black Pencils) は、 the D&AD Annual & Showreelで展示されます。
